Basic Info
Name:Auron
Bio
{ some would say I was a lost man in a lost world }

character: Auron
series: Final Fantasy X
age: 35
gender: male
sexuality: straight

appearance:

Life has been hard on Auron, and it shows. Standing at a respectable 6 feet tall, Auron's body is all hard muscles trained to near-perfection. Achieving such a pinnacle has come at a price, however. In his fights he has earned many a scar, most of which are hidden by his clothing. The most obvious one, however, is the long scar that marks the right side of his face, damaging his eye so badly that he lost the sight in it. Even though he is only 35 years old, Auron's black hair is winged with gray at the temples. His hair appears to be short, with a few tufts overhanging his forehead, but he wears a long tassle of hair at the nape of his neck, which he keeps gathered in a ponytail. This is practically hidden by the collar of his coat. This too is streaked with gray. His chin and cheeks are almost always stubbled (he's not fond of shaving), and he wears a simple pair of black sunglasses low on his nose.

Light plate armor and black pants of a loose-fitting soft cotton are topped with a long coat in a startling shade of red, edged in black. The sleeves of this coat are very loose, but can be tightened with the leather straps at the cuff. The coat is belted at his waist with a broad leather belt worn over a sash of dark beige material. He is most comfortable keeping the left sleeve of his coat loose, wearing his arm not in the sleeve itself, but resting in the pouch made where the belt holds the coat closed. His right arm, his sword-arm, is kept in the sleeve, this one belted tightly around a heavy gauntlet. When he fights he prefers to remove his left arm and shoulder from the coat to give him better mobility. Attatched to his belt is his ever-present jug of sake. While he's rarely ever been seen drinking said sake, he's never seen without it. On his feet are sturdy black boots, reinforced with metal plating. Also, attatched to his chest armor is a high collar in dark grey, trimmed with leather straps to keep it upright. It conceals the lower half of his face, adding to his rather ominous appearance.

personality:

Auron isn't a man of many words. He has such a commanding presence that half of the time he doesn't need them. As for the other half of the time, well, all he has to say is 'jump', and the response will be 'How high, and what song would you like me to hum while doing it?'. He can be physically intimidating or almost invisible, depending on his mood. Even so, people tend to tread lightly around him. Despite all of this outer coarseness, Auron can be quite a gentle soul. He tends not to fight unless provoked. Yet when he is on the job, he takes his missions quite seriously, and will stop at nothing to see them accomplished. A trained fighter and swordsman, Auron is confident in his skills, but not to the point of being cocky. In his 35 years of life, he has pretty much seen and done it all. This has left him with an almost cynical, morbid outlook on life. He isn't afraid to tell it like it is. Ideally, he'd like the youth of today to live a better, more carefree life than he had; but he doesn't advocate living in a bubble-world, ignorant or unaware of society or global problems. Hardships and pitfalls are also a learning experience in his book. No good ever came out of dwelling on past regrets, or glossing them over completely.

abilities/weaponry:

Auron is extremely skilled with his oversized katana (big enough to be considered a zanbatou). His power is such that he can cut through the most armored monsters easily. His only speciality in magic is the ability to weaken an enemy's power or defenses, yet they don't seem to have the same effect here in Paixao as they do in Spira. When pushed to the limit in a fight, Auron can perform an Overdrive, a special attack that he can't normally do. These skills, called Bushido, are magically-enhanced sword strokes that can utterly obliterate an enemy.

weaknesses:

He's extremely old-fashioned, borderline over-protective, and can be stubborn. He's also intensely jaded due to his experiences with Yevon and Sin. On the same token, when not in Guardianship, he can appear to be distant and gruff, which can irritate people who don't know what his true goals are. Auron also appears to have a very bizarre sense of humor, when and if he ever cracks a joke. Mostly his mind is fixed on his duties and achieving his goal. Physically speaking, his brute force imparts a bit of slowness to his movements, as swinging such a heavy sword has given him a fair bit of muscle. While his defense to physical attacks is great, his defense against magical ones leaves much to be desired. Also, Auron is technically dead. His physical body is filled with pyreflies, physical manifestations of a person's soul that appear to be floating orbs of light. He's really quite solid despite it, and doesn't have any of the perks a 'normal' ghost has. Auron can infact be killed, not only by physical means, but by a sending ritual that would disperse his soul into Spira's afterlife, the Farplane.

history:

Originally training to be a warrior-monk in the city of Bevelle, Auron was, at age 25, being groomed for a high-ranking position in the Yevon priesthood. It all came to an end when he refused to marry a priest's daughter in a marriage of convenience. Auron quickly fell out of favor with the heads of Bevelle. His future seemed bleak until he was recruited by Summoner Braska to be his Guardian on Braska's pilgrimage to Zanarkand to defeat Sin. Braska himself was a bit of an outcast in the eyes of Yevon's priesthood, as he'd married an Al Bhed woman and had a daughter by her.

Auron became feircely loyal to Braska, even goin so far as to call him 'my lord'. Before the pair left on their journey, they stopped in Bevelle's prison where a man was being held nder the pretense of being a crazed drunk, as he claimed to be from the holy city of Zanarkand. Braska took him seriously, and brought him along as a Guardian, hoping to be able to return him home somehow. Auron didn't trust the drunkard, Jecht, but Braska helps to convince him with the thought that it'd be entirely too amusing if the three of them; outcasts of Yevon, defeated Sin.

Auron was the straight man to Jecht's antics and Braska's calm patience. He was always thinking of his duty, less than thrilled when Jecht started to use Spheres to record their journey. Always reprimanding Jecht for his less-than-honorable behaviour as a Guardian, Auron still came to trust him over the course of the pilgrimage, and even regard him as a dear friend.

Upon reaching Zanarkand, the trio is met by Lady Yunalesca, the first Summoner to defeat Sin, an Unsent spirit. They learn of the 'catch' to defeating Sin - one of the Guardians must be sacrificed to produce the Final Aeon. Jecht volunteered, having realized over the course of the journey that he'd never get back to 'his' Zanarkand, and makes Auron swear to somehow get back and look after his son, Tidus. Auron accepts, now the young Tidus's caretaker as well, as he had made a similar promise to Braska to look after his daughter Yuna and take her to Besaid.

Both Jecht and Braska are sacrificed to defeat Sin, and here Auron learns the ultimate truth. Sin is eternal, reborn from each Final Aeon. No Summoner can hope to defeat it entirely; meaning Braska and Jecht died in vain. What's worse - Jecht is now Sin. Auron's youthful idealisim and faith are shattered beyond repair. Enraged, he attacked Yunalesca, who strikes him down easily, leaving him blind in one eye and mortally wounded. Little more than devotion to his dead friends kept him alive as he literally drug himself down Mount Gagazet to his friend, Kimarhi Ronso. Convincing Kimarhi to fulfill his promise to take the baby Yuna to Besaid, Auron dies that night in Rin's Travel Agency, but gets up and leaves the next morning. He's now 'living' as an unsent. Composed not of human tissue but of pyreflies, he can now pass into Jecht's Zanarkand, which also no longer exists in reality, but as a dream of the fayth.

For the next ten years he looked after Tidus from afar, a distant mentor trying to prepare Tidus for the day when he would have to face his estranged father - as Sin. The pair both return to Spira, Auron joining the now-grown Yuna on her pilgrimage. As the seasoned veteran of the group, knowing far more than he lets on, refraining from telling the others about Yevon. He's no longer an uptight monk, more or less a deeply cynical warrior with a distaste for the lies woven by the religion supposed to give Spira hope. His role in two pilrimages of High Summoners has earned him the deep respect of all Spira, nearly everyone in the country calling him 'Sir Auron'.

During the ending of Yuna's journey, she is able to send the Aeons and Yu Yevon, but Auron is inadvertently caught in the ritual. She hesitates, but he insists she continue, saying that he's 'played at life too long', and is at last sent to the Farplane to rest. ... or so he thought.
